The dam near Bulgaria's north western town of Berkovitsa has been overflowing since Monday but it is under observation, Mayor Dimitranka Kamenova told Focus news agency.

"There is no risk for the population of the city Berkovitsa. Together with the Deputy Mayor we are going to inspect it, so there is no need for panic," Kamenova said, Sunday.

The municipality is prepared for the expected heavy rains, Darik news informs.

Some 10 days ago, Berkovitsa was put under a state of emergency after torrential rains flooded parts of the city.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment and Water reported that dams throughout the country are 81% full and has warned of intensive rainfalls next week.
