Bulgaria needs an estimated BGN 3.2 M to repair flood damage to its rail infrastructure, according to caretaker Transport Minister Nikolina Angelkova.

Angelkova inspected Thursday flood-hit sections of the rail line Dimitrovgrad – Nova Zagora, according to a media statement of the Transport Ministry.

She announced that the rail infrastructure and facilities had been insured and the authorities had submitted claims with the insurers for all sections which had been damaged by the floods.

Angelkova informed that the estimates of the insurers were yet to be presented.

She said that the repairs at the rail segment Lyubenovo – Galabovo in southern Bulgaria were most difficult, adding that the traffic was to be restored on Monday.

Angelkova explained that the segments which were being built with EU funding under operational program Transport 2007-2013 had not suffered substantial damage.

She argued that the removal of waterlogged soils would not affect construction works and cause delays in the deadline for completion of the projects.
