Chief executives of the Bobov Dol thermal power plant and trade union representatives have reached agreement with Bulgaria's caretaker government on normalizing the work at the plant and the coal mining companies in the region.

At a Monday meeting with caretaker Economy and Energy Minister Vasil Shtonov and caretaker Environment Minister Svetlana Zhekova, agreement was reached to extend the trial runs of the desulphurization unit for simultaneous use by units 1 and 2 of the Bobov Dol TPP by October 17.

The measure will allow a normal pace of work at the coal-mining companies supplying coal to the Bobov Dol TPP, namely Open pit Coal Mining – Pernik (Otkrit Vagledobiv Mines EAD), Stayantsi, Beli Breg, and Chukurovo.

By October 17, the Bobov Dol TPP may function at a capacity of up to 330 MW, according to a media statement of the Ministry of Economy and Energy.

Unit 3 of the Bobov Dol TPP has been earmarked as cold reserve by end-September.

After October 17, 2013, the Bobov Dol TPP will be obliged to reduce the capacity of its units 1 and 2 to a maximum of 180 MW, unless an additional permit is issued by the Ministry of Environment and Water to extend the trial runs.
