“Turkey is very important to us, because we have the strategic goal to diversify our energy supplies,” Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev told the Bulgarian National Radio.

Plevneliev is in Turkey to attend the inauguration of Recep Tayyip Erdogan as president of the country.

Plevneliev said that on September 21-22 he will attend along with the presidents of Turkey, Greece, Azerbaijan, Albania and other countries the ground breaking ceremony for the Transadriatic pipeline in Baku.

Plevneliev noted that Bulgaria could buy through Turkey gas not only from Azerbaijan, but also from Iran and other countries, as Turkey has the necessary infrastructure.

According to Plevneliev, Bulgaria could cooperate more closely with Turkey in other sectors, such as logistics, trade, infrastructure, tourism and transport.

“We would also like to see more Turkish investments in Bulgaria,” Plevneliev said and added that in the next few years must be made efforts for doubling the trade turnover between the two countries.
