We should realize how deeply the Bulgarian democratic system has been eroded, Bulgarian political scientist Ognyan Minchev has opined.

Following are excerpts from Minchev's opinion posted on his Facebook page:

Bulgaria’s democratic system has been turned into partisan personal bickering in service of interests which already are not behind the scenes but on the open stage.

Politics is management of public interest and democratic politics require this management to be conducted in public to avert presentation of private interests as national ones.

What legitimacy does Radan Kanev have to make a political suggestion as to who cannot perform a certain role in governing Bulgaria. Who has ordered Kanev – leader of a coalition standing on the brink of the 4% threshold [needed to enter parliament] – to thwart the possibility of Bulgaria having a center-right government even before the elections were held?

RB might be unwilling to govern jointly with GERB but if RB is a party, a political coalition rather than a special interests club or a club of someone’s fans, then this political structure has to tell its potential voters in what way it intends to use the mandate they could possibly award it with their votes.
