The forthcoming snap poll on October 5 is likely to attract 3.5 million Bulgarians, out of approximately 5 million voters, electoral watchdog head Tsvetozar Tomov argued.

After the deadline for parties to register for the elections ended, Tomov told the Bulgarian National Radio he also expected increased voter activity from abroad.

He also explained it was hard to tell how much parties will eventually be allowed to run in the elections as some acknowledged the registrations submitted to the Central Electoral Committee (CEC) were lacking a few signatures, but were given additional time to gather them.

In his view, "about 10 parties and coalitions" have any chance to get into Parliament on October 5.
