Former Bulgarian Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski has insisted that the previous socialist-led government paid special attention to the energy sector.
Responding to recent comments on energy, Oresharski pointed out on Facebook that the socialist-led Cabinet had found the energy system in a state of collapse in mid-2013.
"Our efforts were directed towards uncovering reserves within the system instead of increasing end-prices and forcing consumers to finance inefficient units and structures," Oresharski declared.
"We relieved exports of the high transmission fees. We also implemented a part of the structural measures included in the preparations for the forthcoming liberalization of the sector – the spin-off of an independent transmission operator in line with the requirements of EU policy. The balancing energy market was launched. A license was issued to the energy exchange, paving the way for greater competitiveness of the market and greater transparency and price fairness. Despite that, a lot remains to be done in the sector," Bulgaria's former Prime Minister noted.
