Residents of flood stricken Mizia are still trying to deal with the extensive water damage to their homes and gardens.

A policeman from Bulgaria's town of Byala Slatina is suspended from work, reports BNT public broadcaster.

According to the TV channel the police started an internal investigation after witnesses reported that he was stealing aid for the flood victims in the nearby town of Mizia.

A driver working for the social services in Mizia, who was delivering mineral water donated for the flood victims, told the police that he was pulled over by their colleague. He asked the driver where did he get the water from and upon finding out the water was donated, took a few packs of bottles and put them in his patrol car.

Another witness told the investigators that the same policeman came to the warehouse of a friend of his and loaded the patrol car's trunk with fruit juices and soft drinks.

If the allegations prove true, the policeman will be discharged.
