Pleven Is Bulgaria's Fastest Depopulating City

Only 35 Bulgarian cities/towns have increased their population, according to the National Statistical Institute (NSI).

Seven of the 35 cities to register an increase in their population are regional capitals, including Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, Kardzhali, Plovdiv and Sofia.

Bulgaria has a total of 257 cities and towns.

Bulgaria's capital, Sofia, has a population of 1 212 935.

Nesebar boasts the biggest population increase.

Pleven lost the largest number of people in 2013, a total of 1310.

The population of the city of Vratsa decreased by over 1000 people in 2013..

Four Bulgarian towns have a population of less than 1000, including Melnik, Madzharovo, Pliska and Kiten.

Seven Bulgarian cities have a population of over 100 000.

The biggest village is the village of Lozen, Sofia district, with a population of 6322.

The village of Lozen is bigger than 142 Bulgarian towns.
