Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev has issued a decree to appoint magistrate Krasimira Medarova as a caretaker minister in charge of the upcoming early elections in October.

The head of state and his administration believe such an office is needed to address the "sensitive issue" of holding elections in Bulgaria, Mediapool reported.

In an extraordinary meeting on Monday, the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) will release judge Medarova temporarily from her post at the Sofia Appellate Court.

Due to recent amendments in the Electoral Code, acting judges can not participate in the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) as its members, Standart news reminds.

Medarova has chaired the Commission of the quota of GERB from April 2011 to March 2014.

The post of "Elections Minister" was widely expected in President Plevneliev's caretaker government.

Plevneliev, however, initially refrained from naming anyone to the office when introducing the interim cabinet on Tuesday.
