Outgoing Bulgarian Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski said he was not sorry that he became a prime minister.

He told the Darik national radio that he never expected it to be an easy job, but turned out to be “a little harder than expected”.

“I am thankful that we had the opportunity to work in people's interest,” he said. “The development of the relations between two parliamentary groups who supported the government after the European elections in may was momentous for the resignation.”

Oresharski said he always stood behind his decisions, so he is firmly behind his nomination of Kristalina Georgieva for EU foreign policy chief. He, however, said it was too early to tell why he nominated the controversial MP Delyan Peevski for head of Bulgaria's national security agency DANS – a move that sparked public outrage and protests demanding the government resignation.
