Bulgarian Students Win 3 Medals at Int'l Informatics Olympiad

A Bulgarian team won two gold medals and a silver medal at the 26th International Olympiad in Informatics held on July 13-20 in Taiwan.

A total of 316 competitors from 82 countries took part in the competition, according to reports of Dnevnik Daily, as cited by Bulgarian software engineering services company Musala Soft.

The gold medals were won by Hristo Venev, student at the Sofia High School of Mathematics "Paisii Hilendarski" and Encho Mishinev from the High School of Mathematics "Atanas Radev" in Yambol.

Mishinev also made it into the top 10 contestants on a global scale.

The silver medal went to Momchil Peychev from the Varna-based High School of Mathematics "Dr Petar Beron".

The team, led by Emil Kelevedzhiev and Krasimir Manev, thanked Anton Shikov, Rusko Shikov, Biserka Yovcheva, Velislava Emilova, Pavlin Peev, Galina Momcheva, Petar Petrov, Boyko Banchev and Yavor Nikiforov, who contributed to their preparation for the competition.

Anton Shikov, one of the trainers of the team, drew attention to the exceptional performance of the Bulgarian team, stressing that Bulgaria had not managed to win two gold medals since 2010.

Another success for the Bulgarians was the election of Krasimir Manev as President of the International Olympiad in Informatics.
