Chickens contaminated with Salmonella have been found in the grocery stores in Bulgaria's city of Plovdiv after an inspection by the Regional Directorate for Food Safety.
The contaminated meat was a part of a batch produced and imported from Poland, BGNES informs. The batch has been distributed in 17 cardboard boxes.
The EU Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed has already sent a notification for the infected batch which has been sold mainly in France.
Head of the Food Control directorate Dr. Nikolay Petkov claimed that besides Plovdiv, part of the contaminated batch is sold in Sofia, too. According to him, however, if cooked, the infected meat does not pose serious health risks.
