Parts of Greece have been experiencing power cuts – after electricity workers began a 48-hour strike on Thursday over privatisation plans, reports Euronews.

Thirteen power stations in Greece were shut down and the electricity in entire regions of the country was cut off, as the summer heat rages on.

The Greek parliament is debating a bill that would allow the government to sell off 30% of the Public Power Corporation (PPC), the country’s biggest electricity producer.

A series of strikes have been planned over the move, sparking fears of power outages and failure of the tourist season.

The strike is supposed to last 48 hours, but may continue longer, if the sides do not reach an agreement.
