Bulgarian Gov't to Resign between July 23, 25 - PM Oresharski

Bulgaria's government is due to step down between July 23 and 25, Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski has announced.

He told private channel bTV a business day from July 21 to 25 was plausible, given that President Rosen Plevneliev had already picked August 6 to dissolve Parliament and appoint an interim government.

After Oreshaski's interview with bTV,co-ruling Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) leader Lyutvi Mestan said on Friday the cabinet's move was to be voted in Parliament July 23 and 24.

Oresharski himself did not provide a further explanation for his choice, but his words shed light on comments he made in Parliament earlier this week.

On Wednesday he declared he would choose a date in end-July to submit his resignation.

The Prime Minister also stressed that July 21, Monday, was not a suitable date for such a step to be taken by the cabinet, as Corporate Commercial Bank (KTB), which has been under conservatorship for weeks after it asked Bulgaria's central bank to impose special supervision, is scheduled to open precisely on that day and a resignation "wouldn't be a good sign."

Commenting on the future Bulgarian EU Commissioner, he explained no names had yet been put forward for discussion.

Bulgaria's proposal for a representative at the EU executive body is due to be officially made July 16 in Brussels.

The country is going through a period of political turmoil, with early elections to be held on October 5 after poor EU election results of the main ruling socialist party (BSP) caused a rift within the governing coalition and liberal DPS announced the cabinet could not have a full term in office.
