Employees of the construction company Avtomagistrali – Tcherno More in Bulgaria's Shumen are preparing to stage a protest over unpaid wages.

Workers have not been paid salaries for April and May 2014, the chairman of the trade union committee of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) in the company Gospodin Yankov told Investor.bg.

According to Yankov, the company faces financial difficulties due to delayed payments by the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA).

As of June 27 the amount of the unpaid salaries reached nearly BGN 12M, although construction work is done on schedule, said Yankov.

"Our protest will be peaceful, but if no measures are taken for the payment of the wages, we will turn to civil disobedience by blocking state institutions and key roads in the country," Yankov claimed.

Avtomagistrali – Tcherno More company is a contractor on a stretch of the Hemus highway and employs 670 people, 450 of whom are members of the trade union at CITUB.

The trade union committee of CITUB has written a letter requesting payment of salaries, addressed to Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski, Minister of Regional Development Desislava Terzieva governor of Shumen Ventsislav Venkov and Chairman of the Board of RIA Stefan Chaikov, Investor.bg reports.
