There is no breakout of infectious diseases in Varna’s flooded Asparuhovo district, Bulgaria’s Chief Health Inspector Dr. Angel Kunchev revealed.

“We are constantly monitoring the situation. There are still risks, but no infectious diseases have been detected so far”, Kunchev told the Bulgarian National Television.

Those who suffer from chronic illnesses, but have had their documents destroyed in the disaster, will receive their necessary medications, the health inspector assured.

“Within two weeks, the people of Asparuhovo should be able to return to their homes. After the silt has been cleaned up, it is also vital that all objects be disinfected, in order to minimize the risks of diseases”, Dr. Kunchev added.

Twelve people died Varna’s Asparuhovo as a result of the devastating floods last week, while one person is still unaccounted for.
