Sixty percent of Bulgarians haven't travelled for vacation last year, shows a survey of the Economy Ministry.

The study, financed by the regional development EU funding programme, took place between January 25 and March 25 this year among 1200 Bulgarians aged 15 and above.

Those who travelled in Bulgaria spent an average of BGN 244 and those who travelled abroad spent an average of BGN 646, shows the survey, quoted by the BTA wire service.

Those who most actively travel in Bulgaria have an average monthly income above BGN 500 and those abroad – above BGN 700.

Knowing the local language, the possibility to organise an independent trip and patriotic sentiments are among the main motives for those who choose to travel in Bulgaria.

Most preferred destinations in Bulgaria are the Black Sea Coast, the town of Sozopol in partuclar, and the mountain resorts Borovets and Velingrad.

More than half of tourist trips abroad were to Greece and Turkey.

Earlier this week it was reported that Economy and Energy Ministry will launch an advertising campaign to promote year-round local tourism to Bulgarians
