The government of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski is to remain in office exactly until the day marking two months before the early elections, DPS leader Lyutvi Mestan announced.

Mestan made his comments briefly after three possible dates for the vote (September 28, October 5, and October 12) were set at the Consultative Council for National Security called by Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev.

Even though the leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) did not explicitly mention "resignation" as the reason for the cabinet to end its term, this is the first "clear" element of the timetable for the cabinet's activity over the last weeks.

His words, quoted by public broadcaster BNR, come against the background of uncertainty over whether the ruling Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), the main one in government, or BSP-appointed Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski, a technocrat, are to stand down.

Socialist leader Sergey Stanishev, unlike Mestan, refused to provide any timetable.

It was however a statement by the DPS that triggered the discussion on early elections this autumn after Mestan said on June 5 that Oresharski's cabinet would not have its entire term in office.

His declaration prompted Stanishev to call for a vote, but the exact date is yet to be decided.
