Ancient Bulgarian Town Nesebar Among Top Balkan Tourist Destinations

Ancient Bulgarian Black Sea town of Nesebar has been named one of the top 10 greatest tourist destination in the Balkans.

The Macedonian Puls24 website has ranked the best locations in the Balkan peninsula which can compete with the world's most popular tourist attractions.

First on the list is Lake Bled in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia which surrounds the Bled island.

Second comes the Plitvice Lakes National Park which is the oldest national park in Southeast Europe and the largest national park in Croatia. Third is Sveti Stefan – a small islet and hotel resort in Montenegro, approximately 6 kilometers southeast of Budva.

The ancient Bulgarian town of Nesebar and one of the major seaside resorts on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, located in Burgas Province is ranked 7th in the Macedonian list of top Balkans destinations. Nesebar is a rich city-museum founded more than 3 thousand years ago.

The ancient part of the town is situated on a peninsula connected to the mainland by a narrow man-made isthmus, and it bears evidence of occupation by a variety of different civilizations over the course of its existence. Nesebar was included in UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 1983.

Among the other recommended destinations are the Meteora complex of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece, Bosnia's city of Mostar, known for the Old Bridge, built by the Ottomans in the 16th century, which is one of Bosnia and Herzegovina's most recognizable landmarks.

The Macedonian Lake Ohrid, Romanian Bran Castle commonly known as the Dracula's castle, Serbian city of Ni? and the Albanian Riviera most popular destination Saranda complete the list of tourist attractions.
