The mayor of Ukraine's Kharkiv, Gennady Kernes, who was shot and critically wounded on April 28, has been discharged from hospital in Israel.

The information was confirmed by Kernes' doctor Roman Barak, who will fly with him back to Ukraine on Tuesday, ITAR-TASS informed.

"I want to get back to work as quickly as possible, because I have many plans and I should fulfil them. My plans are to do everything to make the life in Kharkiv stable and peaceful", Kernes outlined.

The 54-year-old mayor, who was shot in the back and critically wounded, says he is not happy with how the investigation is being carried out, calling it "an imitation".

Despite leaving the hospital on a wheelchair, doctors predict that Kernes will be able to make a full recovery.
