Bulgarian Parliament to Discuss 5th No-Confidence Motion against Govt

Bulgaria's Parliament is to discuss Wednesday the fifth no-confidence vote against the socialist-led government of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski.

The fifth no-confidence motion is based on the failed financial policy of the Cabinet.

The previous four no-confidence motions were triggered by the allegedly flawed policies in the spheres of regional development, investment planning, security and energy, according to reports of dnevnik.bg.

In order for the no-confidence motion to be successful, it has to be backed by 121 votes, which opposition parties GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, the initiator of the measure) and Ataka cannot summon.

Tsetska Tsacheva, Deputy Chair of center-right party GERB, is expected to propose the withdrawal of the no-confidence motion if the vote on the new members of the National Audit Office is postponed.

However, Sergey Stanishev, leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), called on Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski to resign immediately after the unsuccessful no-confidence motion.

In a Tuesday statement, Stanishev argued that the best scenario for the country was to hold early elections as soon as possible, in end-July.

If Bulgarian MPs wrap up the debates on the no-confidence motion on Wednesday, it may be put to the vote on Thursday at the earliest.

The proposal of Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev for a referendum on election rules is also to be discussed in Parliament by the end of the week.
