The new Constitution has to set out the terms of Bulgaria's exit from the European Union, according to Stefan Sofiyanski, former Sofia Mayor and former caretaker Prime Minister.

In a Sunday interview for private TV station bTV, he underscored the need for a new Constitution and claimed that it had to delineate the conditions under which Bulgaria would leave the EU in order to avoid speculation.

He claimed that the earliest possible date for the snap elections was in 2015, alongside the local elections, which had to be rescheduled for the earliest date possible.

"The people will vote for MPs and local authorities" he stated, according to Sega daily.

"Until then, an expert government should be appointed and one of the tasks of the caretaker government will be to regulate EU funds," he explained.

He also said that his party, the right-wing Union of Free Democrats, could not take part in elections on its own.

Sofiyanski, as cited by offnews.bg, suggested that his party could team up with a coalition of The Reformist Bloc and the Bulgaria without Censorship party of Nikolay Barekov.

He also expressed firm support for the introduction of compulsory voting.
