Center-right party GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) is submitting to Parliament the fifth no-confidence motion against the government on Thursday.

The latest no-confidence motion against the Cabinet of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski is based on its alleged failure in the financial sector, according to GERB leader Boyko Borisov, as cited by the Bulgarian National Radio.

Borisov argued that the preparations for taking a new loan had triggered the new no-confidence vote.

"We warned repeatedly that they were preparing to take a new loan of over BGN 3 B. Instead of fixing their collection rate, they are going for the easiest option of placing the burden of debt worth billions on the next generations. The budget hole already stands at nearly a billion leva. They are planning for energy sector revenues which they know they can never obtain. The only thing this government is capable of doing is exposing Brussels for working against Bulgaria. If this government stays, they might as well propose at a certain moment that we leave the European Union," the leader of GERB and former Prime Minister stated.

He went on to say that there was a serious problem with EU funds absorption and that heating tariffs were being increased for political purposes.

"The State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (DKEVR) is increasing heating tariffs in four of the biggest cities so that mayors nominated by GERB will suffer," Borisov insisted.

He also claimed that the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline would lead to new sanctions by the EU.

Asked to comment on the series of no-confidence motions, Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski reasoned that votes of no-confidence were also votes of confidence of some sort.

He pointed out that the policy of issuing debt to cover old debts had existed in Bulgaria since the early 90s.
