Emergency care staff are on the streets again Tuesday to protest against the dire state of their unit.

The medics are determined not to let their newly appointed head Alexander Zlatanov assume his position, replacing Georgi Gelev, who was removed by the Health Minister.

According to the medics, Gelev is simply the scapegoat for long-lasting structural problems and lack of funding for the emergency care. He was replaced following the death of a 40-year old photographer who had waited over 40 minutes for the ambulance to arrive.

The protest, which began in front of the emergency care unit, will move to the Ministry of Health at 11 am. The workers threaten to go on strike if their demands are not met.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Tanya Andreeva said in front of bTV that an increased budget for the emergency care has been allocated this year, both through the European Union and the local budget. She also outlined that salaries have been raised by 10% in January, but there would be measures for further increase.
