The owner of a marijuana factory near Bulgaria's southern city of Pazardzhik has been sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment and a fine of BGN 20 000.

The ruling of the Pazardzhik District Court came after a plea deal, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).

Daniel Borisov was sentenced to five years of imprisonment, with an initial portion of the prison term be spent in solitary confinement, for growing and processing marijuana on an area of 5 decares.

In the summer of 2013, police found 5800 stalks of marijuana and 152 kilograms of dried processed marijuana eaves during a special operation at the greenhouse which Borisov had hired.

The factory had been equipped with marijuana growing and processing technology, surveillance cameras, ventilation and irrigation systems, and a preparations hall.

Borisov, who has a criminal record, was under a remand measure of permanent custody since his arrest one year ago.

The investigating authorities did not find any accomplices of Borisov.

The ruling of the Pazardzhik District Court is final and cannot be appealed.
