Three-time F1 Champion Sir Jack Brabham Dies

Three-time Formula 1 world champion Sir Jack Brabham, has died aged 88 at his home on Australia's Gold Coast after a long battle with liver disease.

The Australian driver, who was the first motorsport identity to be knighted, won the championship in 1959, 1960 and 1966.

In a statement on the family's website, Brabham's son David confirmed his father's death.

"It's a very sad day for all of us," David Brabham stated. "My father passed away peacefully at home at the age of 88 this morning. He lived an incredible life, achieving more than anyone would ever dream of and he will continue to live on through the astounding legacy he leaves behind."

Brabham, who had 14 Grand Prix wins to his name, won the Formula One World Constructors Championship in 1966 and 1967.
