Gendarmerie and police will escort the cars transporting the ballot papers for the upcoming European Parliament elections to the electoral districts in Bulgaria.

The cars for the first five districts will be dispatched on Wednesday and the transportation will take place in line with a schedule prepared by the Central Electoral Commission and the printing facility of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), according to reports of the Bulgarian National Television (BNT).

The transportation of the ballot papers to the electoral districts is to be completed in six days.

The printing facility of BNB is also guarded by gendarmerie.

In order to prevent a new scandal like the one with the piles of unaccounted-for ballots at the early parliamentary elections on May 12, 2013, police officers will keep track of the registration plates of cars entering the printing facility and personal data of people entering the site.

On the eve of the early parliamentary elections on May 12, 2013, the so-called reflection day, some 350 000 illegal ballots were found at the Multiprint printing facility in Kostinbrod in an operation of the prosecuting authority and the State Agency for National Security (DANS).

The trial over the extra amount of ballots is still underway at the Sofia City Court after the prosecuting authority revised the indictment.
