Number of Bulgarians Shopping Online Increases

More and more Bulgarians shop via mail order or via Internet, according to the National Statistical Institute preliminary data.

In March compared to the previous month the turnover increased in the 'Retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet' by 1.7%, in the 'Retail sale of computers, peripheral units and software, telecommunications equipment' by 1.6% and in the 'Retail sale in non-specialized stores' by 0.3%.

A decrease was registered in the 'Retail sale of audio and video equipment; hardware, paints and glass; electrical household appliances'-1.8%,in the 'Dispensing chemist; retail sale of medical and orthopedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles'-0.6%, in the 'Retail sale of textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods' - 0.5%, in the 'Retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco'-0.4% and in the 'Retail sale of automotive fuel'- 0.1%.

NSI's preliminary seasonally adjusted data shows that in March 2014 the turnover in Retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles at constant prices increased by 0.4% compared to the previous month. In March 2014 the working day adjusted turnover in Retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles grew by 5.8% in comparison with the same month of the previous year.

In March 2014 compared to the same month of 2013 the turnover increased in almost all economic activities. More significant growth was observed in the 'Retail sale of computers, peripheral units and software; telecommunications equipment'-20.4%, in the 'Retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet'-17.8%,in the 'Dispensing chemist; retail sale of medical and orthopedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles'-8.4% and in the 'Retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco'-5.6%. A drop of 3.0% was registered in the 'Retail sale of automotive fuel'.
