Bulgaria's opposition center-right GERB party will submit a no-confidence motion against the Socialist-led government of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski.

This will be the fourth attempt of GERB to take down the cabinet through such a vote. The motion this time will be based on the energy sector, and more precisely the South Stream gas pipeline project, the party leader Boyko Borisov confirmed in front of journalists in Parliament.

"Today (Friday) we will submit a vote of no-confidence on the failure of the South Stream project and the Energy Minister Dragomir Stoynev's incompetency", Borisov said, quoted by Dariknews.

The South Stream pipeline has been a topic of high sensitivity in recent months, since the European Commission urged member states involved in it to re-negotiate their agreements with Russian energy giant Gazprom on the project.

Further controversy was sparked in the last weeks following the Bulgarian government's decision to adopt amendments in the Energy Act changing the status of South Stream's local segment in order to exclude it from European legislation. This inflicted criticism on Bulgaria from Brussels.

At the end of April, Gazprom's CEO Alexey Miller assured that the construction of the ground segments of South Stream in Bulgaria and Serbia will begin in July.
