EU, Russia, Ukraine Fail to Agree in Warsaw Gas Talks

The EU, Ukraine and Russia have failed to agree on gas issues on Friday's meeting in Warsaw, Poland.

Two more sessions of the three-way energy talks are planned for May, according to the EU Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger as quoted by RIA Novosti agency.

Moscow, Brussels and Kiev had previously agreed to hold a meeting in search of a solution to the gas dispute between Russia and Ukraine.

Gazprom, Russia's energy giant, insists it should be paid around USD 11.4 B for the gas delivered in 2013 and USD 2.2 B for supplies since January this year.

The Ukrainian state-owned company Naftogaz, however, was firm it would not accept the bill, as it could not pay for quantities of gas it had not yet bought.

Naftogaz claims it paid for 13 B cubic meters last year, while Gazprom insists it is still to transfer the entire sum for a 41.6 bcm of gas the two companies had agreed on.

This week Kiev struck a deal with Bratislava on reverse supplies from Slovakia, while Germany's energy concern RWE began deliveries via Poland in mid-April.
