Bulgarian-Chinese Commission for Economic Cooperation Holds XV Session

Bulgaria-China trade will be discussed on April 28-30 in Beijing during the XV session of the intergovernmental joint commission for economic cooperation.

The visit of the Bulgarian delegation to Beijing aims to define priority spheres of cooperation and to outline concrete projects, according to the press office of the Bulgarian Ministry of Economy and Energy.

The Bulgarian delegation is headed by Krasin Dimitrov, Deputy Minister of Economy and Energy, and the Chinese delegation by Zhong Shan, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative.

The meeting will also be attended by deputy ministers, representatives of the Bulgarian Development Bank, the InvestBulgaria Agency, the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency, the Bulgarian Energy Holding, the Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ), etc.

According to statistics presented by the Bulgarian Ministry of Economy and Energy, Bulgarian exports to China have increased over the past few years, which makes it important to facilitate the import of food and other products into China.

Bulgaria's traditional export items to Asian markets include wine, milk and dairy products, mineral water, essential oils, machine building products, etc.

China is already Bulgaria's second biggest export destination among non-EU countries after Turkey.

In 2013, trade between Bulgaria and China amounted to USD 1.875 B, up by 7.8% from 2012.

Bulgaria's exports to China stood at USD 862 M, up by 13.1%, while imports amounted to USD 1.013 B, up by 2.9%, according to the press office of the Ministry of Economy and Energy.

Bulgaria aims to attract Chinese investments in sectors such as machine building, the automotive industry, electronics, information and communication technologies (ICT), the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, agriculture and tourism.
