Turkey will import electricity from Bulgaria due to the extended dry spell in the country, according to Taner Yildiz, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.

Turkey's Energy Minister, as cited by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA), told journalists in Bursa that the water resources in the dams had decreased substantially as a result of the dry spell, most notably in the districts in eastern and southeastern Anatolia.

"Under these circumstances, experiencing a scarcity of electricity is unavoidable. This is why we intend to import electricity from Bulgaria and also from Iran and Georgia. As regards Iran, we have fully prepared infrastructure with a capacity of 400 MW," Turkey's Energy Minister explained.
