South Korean Ferry Capsizes, At Least 2 Dead

A ferry with 459 people has capsized off the coast of South Korea, leaving at least 2 dead.

Rescue operations are under way, with over 30 vessels involved in the operation. The bodies of 2 victims, one of them a female crew member, have been recovered, the BBC reports.

Initially, Korean media revealed that 368 people had been rescued, but later downgraded the estimate drastically to 180. This means that hundreds of passengers are still missing.

The incident happened around 9 AM local time. The ferry was on its way to the southern resort island of Jeju, with many school children travelling for a trip.

So far, the causes remain unclear.
