Finance Minister Petar Chobanov presented the priorities of the Bulgarian government during meetings with IMF representatives in Washington.

"Bulgaria's government has focused on social policy and the problems of the business sector over the past few months and the efforts of the authorities are aimed at reducing the administrative burden and simplifying regulatory regimes," said Finance Minister Petar Chobanov in Washington, according to a media statement of the Finance Ministry.

In his talks with representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), investment banks and rating agencies in Washington, Chobanov emphasized that the reasonable medium-term fiscal policy aimed at reducing the budget deficit was an expression of the strong commitment of the Bulgarian government to fiscal and budgetary discipline.

During the talks, Bulgaria's Finance Minister noted that the government was taking efficient measures as regards the revenue administrations, seeking to secure resources for the implementation of the fiscal policy and to also improve the business climate, encourage economic activity and curb tax fraud.

Chobanov and Reza Moghadam, Director of the IMF's European Department, exchanged views on current topics and the main priorities of the IMF.

The meetings of the Bulgarian delegation led by the Finance Minister in Washington were part of the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group.
