Radan Kanev: Bularia’s Position on Ukraine is Risky

The leader of the right-wing Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB), Radan Kanev, believes Bulgaria needs a clearer position on Ukraine, based on EU principles.

"We must recognize the severity of this crisis and have a proper reaction. It is evident that neither the government, nor the opposition are aware of this, and the responsibility they carry", Kanev, who is also the spokesperson for the Reformist Bloc coalition said for Dnevnik.

"Borders of the Black Sea states have not been redrawn since the First World War. Now it happened in 2008 in Georgia, and 2014 in Ukraine. This process is gradually moving westward, and Bulgaria should firmly stand against any further changes in the borders", the democrat added.

Kanev urged for a common EU foreign policy and energy policy. In his mind, stricter sanctions must be enforced, until Russia recognizes Crimea as part of Ukraine, but pointed out that Bulgarian politicians refrain from doing so due to their personal economic interests and links to Russian companies.
