Ruling center-right party Fidesz is set to win Hungary's parliamentary elections, with 48% of the vote according to exit polls.

Center-left opposition is reported to have received 27% support, as Der Spiegel has informed. Jobbik, the far-right party which some forecasts placed second, got 18%.

Official results were expected "Sunday night".

It is yet unclear whether the results will secure Prime Minister Viktor Orban the two-thirds majority on which he has relied over the past four years.

At his last rally before the elections, Hungary's PM asked his supporters to give him "four more years" and pledged to create jobs, to pursue his reforms in the banking and energy sectors and to review Budapest's negotiations with the EU.

Fidesz's politics have however divided opinions both in Hungary and Europe, with critics accusing Orban and his allies of populism, a crackdown on democracy and free speech, excessive Euroscepticism and, recently, a surge of relations with Russia.

Many in Hungary, on the other hand, say he is struggling to ensure his country more political independence and eradicate poverty.
