Ukraine's Central Electoral Commission rejected Darth Vader's application for registration as a presidential candidate at the upcoming elections.

According to the commission, parts of Darth Vader's application were "questionable" and some paperwork was probably forged, reports BBC.

It has established that the man is really an electrician called Viktor Shevchenko, who changed his name to Darth Vader in March.

At least one commission member suggested Darth Vader's campaign could be an attempt to discredit the upcoming election - possibly by Russia, which does not recognise the Ukraine's interim government. "It may seem like an innocent joke, but someone paid 2.5M hryvnyas (USD 227,000) for this joke," said Ihor Zhydenko for BBC, referring to the deposit that must be given along with the application.

Zhydenko added that Darth Vader might run for the presidency in Russia, where he has received extensive media coverage. "They already have little green men," he said, referring to Russian troops in the Crimea region. "Such a commander-in-chief would be appropriate."

On Monday Vader announced his bid on behalf of the Internet Party of Ukraine, surrounded by imperial storm troopers and accompanied by Chewbacca. The party already has 280 000 members and has been joined by 72 000 people in the 24 hours, preceding Darth Vader's presidential bid.

One of the first commitments of Vader upon winning would have been the construction of a space station to protect Ukraine from territorial claims.

A "national program for a bottomless budget" was also to be carried out, and it would have be financed by Vader's party.

As a main goal of his political party, Vader has announced the creation of an e-government in Ukraine.

Another point in the program envisaged that every 10-year-old child was to receive a computer from the state. Free access to Wi-Fi was also been pointed out as a priority.
