Serbia Reports EUR 178M Public Debt Increase in February
World | March 21, 2014, Friday // 15:55| viewsSerbia's public debt went up by EUR 178M in February reaching EUR 20.4B or 62.9% of the country's GDP, according to data released by the Ministry of Finance.
At the end of 2013, the public debt totaled EUR 20.089B or 61.2% of the GDP, and according to the Budget System Law, Serbia's public debt is limited to 45% of the GDP, the BGNES reports.
By end-February, Serbia's direct and indirect liabilities amounted to EUR 17.6B and EUR 2.794B respectively.
According to official figures, at the end of 2000, the public debt was EUR 14.2B, or 169.3% of the GDP. Since then it has gradually decreased and reached EUR 8.78B by end-2008, which is 29.2% of the GDP.
