Mayor of Bulgaria's Teteven Dismissed

The district court in Bulgaria's city of Lovech has decided to temporarily dismiss Teteven's mayor Milen Milev.

The measure will also be applied to his deputy, Detelin Parlev, and will prevent the two men from trying to dispose of any documents that could be relevant to the trial, Dariknews.bg has reported.

Milev, the mayor of Bulgarian town Teteven, and his three deputies were arrested on Monday by officers of the State Agency for National Security (DANS).

Regional Prosecution in Lovech then revealed that criminal proceedings were under way against Milen Milev, Detelin Parlev, Levchana Hadzhieva, and Desislav Tsvetanov, stating later that prosecution had launched up an investigation into embezzlement and administrative abuse involving public procurement procedures.

Prosecutiors claim that funds worth BGN 1 M were drained from the municipal budget and transferred to a firm involving his relatives.

Earlier, in an interview for Bulgarian television bTV, Milev acknowledged that the woman whose business is in charge of food supplies to a Teteven kindergarten is his partner.

Milev is mayor of Teteven since 2011, with a candidacy from the National Agrarian Union, with the support of the former ruling GERB party. Prior to that, he has been involved in the sugar business.
