Exit Poll: 93% of Voters in Crimea Referendum Back Russia Union

Around 93% of voters in Sunday's referendum in Crimea have backed joining Russia and seceding from Ukraine, according to exit polls quoted by Russian news agencies.

According to an exit poll conducted by the Crimean Institute for Political and Sociological Studies, as cited by ITAR-TASS, around 7% of the participants in the referendum opposed the accession of Crimea to Russia.

The exit poll data was published after 8 pm local time, after all polling stations had closed.

A totall of 59 111 people at over 200 polling stations in Crimea took part in the exit poll.

The referendum, which was condemned by the US and the EU as illegitimate, attracted a record turnout.
