The Director of the Corruption unit of Bulgaria's State Agency for National Security (DANS), Diana Pavlova, has resigned.

The resignation was reportedly submitted several weeks ago, according to Capital daily, citing two independent sources form the security services.

Among the possible reasons for her resignation are said to be the criticism leveled in the latest report of the European Commission on the poor results in the fight against corruption in Bulgaria, the leak of information in the investigation against Hristo Biserov, former Deputy Parliament Speaker and former MP of liberal party Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS), who has been charged with money-laundering and tax evasion, and personal reasons.

The director of the DANS unit in charge of countering corruption in the judiciary, which is part of the department headed by Pavlova until recently, also filed his resignation.
