More than 80% of the citizens of Iceland want a referendum on the country's EU membership, before terminating the negotiations.

A survey of two Icelandic media shows that 82% of the respondents said they want a referendum.

Meanwhile, earlier this week thousands of Icelanders took to the streets of Reykjavik in protest against the government's decision to terminate the negotiations.

Talks over a possible EU membership have been frozen by the current government that is known for its vocal Euro-skepticism.

Iceland's application for the bloc has not yet been withdrawn due to the opposition's claim that not enough debate has been made in Parliament on the issue.
