The existing government did not live up to people's expectations, according to Georgi Parvanov, former two-term President and leader of the ABV Movement.

Speaking Sunday at a meeting with citizens of the northeastern city of Dobrich, he claimed that the socialist-led coalition government was resorting to policies deployed during the term in office of the center-right GERB government.

Parvanov, as cited by the Focus news agency, suggested that Bulgaria's governments over the past few years had been formed by illegitimate means and pursued illegitimate policies.

The meeting was attended by Bulgarian MEP Ivaylo Kalfin, the frontrunner in the election list of the ABV Movement (Alternative for Bulgarian Revival) for the European Parliament elections in May, and former Interior Minister Rumen Petkov.

Parvanov explained that backstage policy-making had been the main reason for the ABV Movement to come up with a separate list of nominees for the 2014 EP elections from BSP.

He underscored the need for a radical break with some of the policies from the few past years, including the practice ushered in by GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) of all decisions being taken by one or two people in the party.

He went on to say that Delyan Peevski, notorious media mogul and MP from liberal party Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS), had met with Tsvetan Tsvetanov, Deputy Chair of GERB and former Interior Minister, to agree on the mechanisms of protecting bandits and ruining political opponents.

Parvanov commented that the mechanisms of governance had remained the same despite the change of Cabinet, the sole difference being that Peevski's office was already being visited by key politicians.
