Bulgarian producers intend to cooperate in an attempt to be more competitive, the Made in Bulgaria Union announced.

"Small farm owners, for example, will cooperate their cropland in order to till it easier. Furthermore, they will have higher production levels and respectively higher prices," Union's head Lukan Lukanov explained, cited by Standard Daily.

The idea has already been presented to the Minister of Economy Dragomir Stoynev. By cooperating, local producers intend to put up a resistance to large foreign retail chains, too.

The feud between Bulgarian producers and hypermarkets has been lingering for more than two years. Local producers blame retail chains of imposing onerous fees and contract terms. The latter insist that Bulgarian goods are uncompetitive.

A few days ago, large retail chains in Bulgaria have reacted strongly to publically voiced suspicions of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski that they were draining VAT.
