Hurricane winds have added to the flood catastrophe in Great Britain as the first death caused by the weather was reported on Wednesday.

Wind speeds reached 120 km/h in some parts of the Albion, Euronews reported. Floods around the River Thames also spread on Wednesday.

The British meteorological services declared red alerts for hazardous weather around the country, as the storm is moving northwards.

Prime Minister David Cameron cancelled his trip to the Middle East meanwhile, in order to organize the relief efforts back home. The government has received much criticism in its handling of the situation in the first days of the floods.

Cameron has pledged to assist every flooded home and business with EUR 6,000 for repair and reconstruction.
