Employed Bulgarians Decrease By 2.5% in 2013 Q4

The number of employed Bulgarians has dropped by 2.5% between October and December 2013.

According to the data of the National Statistics Institute (NSI), 20% of the employees in the hotel and restaurant business, 10% in agriculture and 7.4% in the sectors of culture and sport were laid off in the period.

Compared to end of 2012, the number of employed dropped by 0.6%

The nominal salary in the last quarter of 2013 increased by 3.1% year-on-year, to reach BGN 828. The most significant increase was posted in education, culture and sport and healthcare.

The highest salaries were in the telecommunications (BGN 1,846), energy (BGN 1,522) and finance and insurance (BGN 1,517). The lowest salaries were in the tourism sector (BGN 546).
