The party of Bulgaria's former rhythmic gymnastics champion and coach, Iliyana Raeva, has teamed up with two partners ahead of the EU vote.

"Coalition for United Democracy" is the name of the new coalition on the country's political scene," Raeva, who set off on a political career last summer, announced on Wednesday.

Her new party, which is called United Bulgaria and defines itself as a center-right formation, will pool forces with the Christian Democratic Party and one more formation, which Raeva declined to name.

The famous coach however was firm she will not run for a seat in the European Parliament.

Raeva established her party in the summer as the country was hit by an unprecedented wave of anti-government protests, which she heartily supported.

In her words United Bulgaria was getting wide support from Bulgarian communities all over the world and has the ambition to put an end to the era of dirty politics.

"My aim is to unite Bulgaria. I believe I have the qualities and potential to do that," Raeva said recently, adding that she will not rely on popular faces only to promote the new party.
