Both Bulgaria and the EU need the Bulgarian Socialist Party, argued PES and BSP leader Sergey Stanishev.

Sunday Stanishev spoke at the commemoration of WW II resistance in the village of Grozdyovo near Bulgarian city of Varna.

"It is by no accident that the Bulgarian Socialist Party is the oldest party in Bulgaria. It is due to the fact that people always needed it," stated the socialist leader.

"Our values are intransient - we stand for solidarity, work and security for everyone, for worthy incomes for both our children and elder parents," added he.

"We trust in our voters, for they have always helped when the party is facing hard times," said Stanishev refering to upcoming European Elections 2014.

The Socialist leader spoke against the background of former party leader and Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov announcing a breakaway separate list for elections under the banner of his informal ABV movement.

He said he will not comment on that development further, describing once again Parvanov's move, which was announced in January as highly unprincipled.
