Bulgarian President Vetoes Medications Act

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev issued Wednesday a veto on the Medications for Human Use Act.

The Act was passed in the Parliament on January 16, 2014.

According to the President, cited by his press office, he is returning the Act for new debate in the Parliament because it introduces a restrictive regime of exports of medications, including deliveries within the EU.

The Head of State does support the efforts of the Members of the Parliament to secure enough medications for the needs of the population as live and health of citizens are one of the highest values.

The President believes, however, that this must be done in accordance with the basic principles of the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria and of European legislation such as the principle of equal treatment of economic entities and of rule of law.
